In Melbourne, the vaccine which was once used to fight Tuberculosis is being tested to see if it could help us fight coronavirus too. This vaccine has been in use for about the past 100 years, named as Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG). It has the capacity to provide immunology as well as train the body defense system to combat infections.
WHO has suggested the researchers know if the BCG vaccine is effective against the coronavirus. WHO is encouraging various international groups t collaborate on the study of infectious diseases. This group is led by Nigel Curtis at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne.
Curtis stated that it has the capacity to boost the immune system and so it can help fight a whole range of infectious viruses in a generalized way. He is affirmative with the effectiveness of this vaccine against coronavirus. He additionally said the “we wouldn’t be doing this if we didn’t think that this might work. Although, we cannot guarantee that this might work but the only way to find out is the trial.”
