The Indian festival, Basant Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of Magh month. Based on Hindu mythology, Basant Panchami is considered as the festival which comes with the warm and fertile spring season after long winters. The festival is also celebrated for the ripening of agricultural crops and blossoming of yellow mustard flowers. Based on this significance, people usually wear vibrant and bright yellow color clothes depicting the arrival of spring.
According to Hindu Panchang (calendar), this year (2020) tithi (auspicious timings) of Basant Panchami starts from 10:45 am on 29 January 2020 till 01:00 pm on 30 January 2020. The festival is accomplished by worshiping Goddess Saraswati, symbolizing the creative energy, knowledge, art, and learning. On this day, people offer yellow flowers to the mighty Goddess. The whole place bursts with yellow color during the festival. People at homes prepare feast including special Kesar halwa which is also yellow in color.
In India, Basant Panchami is an optional holiday. Usually, government offices and schools enjoy a day holiday, while in private offices it is operational. Many celebrities are celebrating this festival with high enthusiasm and also have sent wishes for everyone through their social media handle.
