Critic’s Rating: 3.5/5
Story Line: Life doesn’t end just for a cause that we are not responsible; the story of” Chhapaak” reflects the same when a nineteen years old girl met a horrific acid attack and then chooses to fight for justice and reclaims her life.
Movie Review: “Chhapaak” is a true story of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, who has chosen to fight and get justice. She is an inspiration for many women who are victimized by such incidents. On a fictional account, Deepika Padukone is playing the role of Malti, who is attacked by a friend of the family named Bashir Khan aka Babbu and his friends in the street of Delhi in daylight.
The story line starts when Malti goes for a job hunt and consciously trying to hide her scars left behind after the attack. She got entangle in multiple surgeries and her court cases pending for years. The film is overall good, maker nicely presents struggle, emotion, and inspiration, but the film lacks melodrama or manipulation at some points or others, however, there is almost a perfect performance of protagonist who has chosen to fight with her pretty smiles, indomitable spirit, and the pain she is holding in her eyes for years.
Deepika Padukone is seen for delivering a brilliant and mesmeric performance. In fact, in many scenes, she will make you move to tears by her sentimental performance when she is holding an ear ring in front of the mirror and crying for where to put on ear ring with no ears and no nose. Precisely, Malti’s character in Chhapaak shows that at no any points she succumbs in the fight to bring justice.
‘Chhapaak’, an untold story of acid attack survivor, demonstrates a tender, yet powerful handling of a heinous crime against women. Overall; this is the story that can’t just let you go. In fact, it’ll make a mark on your heart that is going to reside in your heart for long.
