
Farmers Day is celebrated every year on 23 December on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh. Charan Singh served from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980 as the 5th prime minister of India.

Today the nation is celebrating ‘National Farmers Day‘, but the farmers for which this day is celebrated is celebrating this day amid the farmers’ movement. The Indian Farmers Union has announced that they won’t eat the food of one time.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Raised Voice In the Support of Farmers in Parliament
Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh did great work in support of Indian farmers. He introduced several farmers-friendly policies and welfare schemes to raise farm productivity. This is the reason why the government announced to celebrate national farmers day on his birthday. This day has been celebrated since 2001.
Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902 in Hapur, Western UP. His father’s name was Chaudhary Mir Singh. When he was small, his family settled in the Jani area. He studied at Agra University and then practiced law for some time in Ghaziabad. He was greatly influenced by Gandhiji.

Charan Singh formed the Congress Committee in Ghaziabad and support Gandhiji’s salt movement. For that, he was imprisoned for six months, but soon after leaving the prison, he again joined the country service.
He was also the CM of UP. During his tenure, he did many important things. It was he who did a lot of work to make farmers independent in the country. He abolished Zamindari and created the post of Lekhpal for the benefit of farmers. Later he became Deputy Prime Minister and then served the country as a Prime Minister.
This year, ‘National Farmers Day’ Is Different
This year, farmers will celebrate ‘National Farmer’s Day‘ amidst ongoing farmer’s protests. Farmers’ unions have been opposing the government’s new agricultural laws. The talk between farmers and government is underway and the decision is expectedly announced today on the proposal of the central government for further negotiations.
There will be a meeting at 11 am today at the Singhu border. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Union Cabinet will also be held today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This meeting will start at 10.30 am through video conferencing. The issue of farmers is also expected to be discussed in the meeting.
