Since November, farmers of some other states including Punjab and Haryana have been demonstrating on different borders of Delhi since November against the new agricultural laws brought by the Modi government in September last year. Some Canadian leaders have commented on these demonstrations earlier, on which India had strongly objected, but now this movement seems to find a new direction on the global platform. On Tuesday, American pop star Rihanna tweeted in support of the farmers movement, after which people from many camps, countries and regions are tweeting on this issue on social media.
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut responded by tweeting on Rihanna’s tweet. Apart from Rihanna, a number of people have tweeted on the issue, including Teenage Climate Activist Greta Thunberg, Meena Harris, niece of US Vice President Kamala Harris.
In fact, Rihanna had shared an article on the issue of farmer movement and asked ‘why are we not talking about this?’ Kangna Ranaut on this, termed those involved in the peasant movement as ‘terrorists’ and tried to capture ‘weak and broken India’ from China.
No one is talking about it because they are not farmers they are terrorists who are trying to divide India, so that China can take over our vulnerable broken nation and make it a Chinese colony much like USA…
Sit down you fool, we are not selling our nation like you dummies. https://t.co/OIAD5Pa61a— Kangana Ranaut (@KanganaTeam) February 2, 2021
At the same time, Meena Harris, the writer and niece of Kamala Harris, in a tweet, supported the farmer movement, saying that ‘it is no coincidence that the world’s oldest democracy (US) was attacked last month (capitol violence). And now the world’s largest democracy is falling prey to it. He further wrote, ‘All this is connected. All of us should be angry against the internet shutdown from India and the use of paramilitary forces against the peasant protesters.
It’s no coincidence that the world’s oldest democracy was attacked not even a month ago, and as we speak, the most populous democracy is under assault. This is related. We ALL should be outraged by India’s internet shutdowns and paramilitary violence against farmer protesters. https://t.co/yIvCWYQDD1 pic.twitter.com/DxWWhkemxW

Harris further wrote that ‘military nationalism is as powerful a force in American politics as in India or any other country. This can be stopped only when people themselves realize that fascist governments are not going anywhere.
Greta Thunberg has also shown support for farmers on social media, while 9-year-old environmental activist Lisipria Kanguzam of India has also tweeted and sought support for farmers.
You doesn’t need 1 million followers to influence the millions. Your one tweet can change the whole world.
SUPPORT OUR FARMERS. 🙏🏻#FarmersProtest

Punjabi pop star Jazzy B has thanked Rihanna, Meena Harris and many others for their support. American model Amanda Cerny wrote a post on her Instagram in support of farmers, in support of which Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal has also tweeted.

Remember that the agitation of farmers against agricultural laws has seen a lot of halt. On 26 January last, farmers took out a tractor rally in Delhi, during which violence took place and around 400 policemen were injured. Farmers’ organizations say that many of their companions have gone missing since that day. After the violence, the police has increased security here and barricading is being done in a terrible manner here. There were pictures of barricades of barbed wire, nails and concrete on the banks of the protesting places on the Ghazipur, Singhu border. The Delhi Police Commissioner said on Tuesday that necessary steps are being taken for safety.
