This day has been started in 2001 by the World Toilet Organization and was officially declared as World Toilet Day in 2013 by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of this day for 2020 is ‘Sustainable sanitation and climate change‘.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals also set the goal of providing clean drinking water and sanitation to all.
